I have two questions:

First Question: I am in need of adding additional motion sensors to my security system monitored by ADT. The company that installed my alarm is a 3rd party sub contracted company that quoted a whopping $120 per sensor. Now, I can get these same sensors brand new, sealed in the box, and with a guaranteed warranty on Ebay for only $50 per sensor. The subcontracted company said that they would not install any products that was not theirs, so what about ADT? Would their technicians install a product that was not bought from them?

Second question: I do have a 3 year contract with ADT, (didn’t sign any paperwork yet, the installer didn’t have it with him about 1 month ago) but what if I just installed the motion sensors myself? When calling ADT later to inform them that new zones were added, would I have to give my name, installer company or some kind of installer code to them to verify that I am an certified installer?

I know how to install these sensors and I have some alarm experience.
I also have the programming/instillation manual and the installer’s code for my system. My system is all wireless so I know that each motion has to be programmed to a different zone. If I do have to give some kind of over-the-phone proof that I am an installer, I guess I have to go with the ridiculous price of $120 per sensor. Any ideas?

ADT monitored burglar alarm system

Well, I’m in need of extra motion sensors for my home and the subcontracted security company that installed my alarm is quoting a ridiculous price of $120 per sensor. Well I can get the sensors online for $50 each brand new. The thing is, they wont guarantee the sensors even though I would go through them for installation. I know how to install the sensors and I would have to call ADT my monitor to tell them that new sensors were added. My question is will I have to state that I’m an installer and give some kind of special code when I call ADT telling them that new zones where added or state the company I work for if i were an installer or could I just tell them the zones with out any questions asked?
P.S: I am under a 3 year contract with ADT, but the system is mine.

thanks for the response. These motions are wireless and I have the installer’s and I am able to program them. I have the Ademco Lynx Panel. So your saying I can just do it myself and not notify ADT? I thought that if an alarm came in to them that it showed which zone was tripped. Wouldn’t they get some kind of unknown signal if one of the motions that I were to install triggered an alarm? Thanks
hmmm ok i see. What if i put my system on disregard and program and install the sensors. I do have the code and the manuals for programming. Will ADT give me a hard time and maybe take some kind of legal action? It is MY system and the only contract I have with them is for monitoring, the system is mine I should be able to do what every I like with it. any ideas, Thanks for the response =)

I am leasing a business space with an ADT alarm system in it, but it is not activated. I was just wondering if anyone knows how to turn on the alarm part of it without having to be monitored by ADT, there are neighbors here by the business that would call the cops as fast as ADT, I just need the alarms.
