Are there any home alarm systems that are cheap?
Our house has been broken into twice and attempted once in the last 6 months. Time to get an alarm system.
But, we have two problems…
1. We are near broke.
2. We have no home phone line.
Does anyone know a company that will do free installation of a system with a low monitoring fee? (like $10-15 / month) and any phone services that will provide a minimal landline near the same price?
Please let me know if you have any suggestions!
All answers are appreciated.
No one was home when the house was broken into – and it seems to happen in the daytime (as we are there at night). One day the basement (Outdoor entrance) lock was messed up and it looked like someone tried to get in. Another time the upstairs window (which was cracked in middle of summer) was open and screen was removed. Cat was outside and everything was rummaged through. And again yesterday, cracked storm window and opened only window on 1st floor with no lock. Rummaged through everything – took two inexpensive drills – and left back door open. Footprints in snow show that they looked around our pole barn but nothing really was gone.
DVD players, Playstation II, over 100 DVDs etc. were all left.
No money or jewelry kept there.
And we will be getting a dog in the spring.

There are some, but they aren’t worth the money. They are almost worse than useless.
Do you have lots of lights outside? That’s a major deterrent to burglary. A dog in the backyard?
Keep the cell phone nearby!

Often, just putting stickers on the doors and windows that say you have a burglar system will deter the intruders. I would guess at this point it is the same intruders each time as they know you don’t have a system, The stickers may work. A big nasty dog is your next best cheap deterrent. There are systems that work off of cell phone lines or internet lines ( Vonage). Check the services.
Just buy a dog. !
hahaha.
cheeapest alarm systemm evverr !
and they’re cute (♥)
Aww! Why would anyone do a thing like that?? Anyway:
There probably are some alarms that are pretty cheap. First: I would look at a hardware store such as Home Depot, Lowe’s, ACE’s, etc. If they don’t have it, I would look on Ebay. Before you buy, though, look at the seller’s records. If they have a 99% or 100%, go ahead. Also, you can buy new locks at hardware stores. Do you know what dog you are getting in the spring? I would go with a German Shepard, or something of that sort. Also: the old trick for scaring away the burglars is… a BEWARE OF DOG sign. It usually works. You could also try to call your insurance company. Since have almost been robbed, they might even give 1 for free. Just check around for a few months and see if you can find anything. Also: the burglar seems to know when no one is home. I would drive the car away for a day and have someone stay at your house and look for him. You can look at the footprints and see if it was an adult or child. This person (as I’ve said before) know your daily routine… be careful.
Good Luck and Hope I could Help!!!!!!!!
ok, without a phone line, you’ll need a cellular device for your alarm system. monitoring will cost an extra $10 per month for the cellphone towers, but its cheaper than getting a phone line just for your alarm. adt costs $45-$50 per month, but our company does cellular monitoring for only $25 per month. the problem is the alarm itself. the cellular unit costs over $200. so, you’re probably looking at about $350+ for the alarm all together. without the cellular device, the alarm will only cost about $150+ and we can monitor it for only $15 per month, but you would need a home phone line. if you get the “free” alarm system, the companies are going to lock you into a 3-5 year contract at $30-$40 per month, and you never own the system. that’s right, companies like adt and brinks have the right to come to your home, remove thier alarm system, and leave holes in your walls. $35 per month doesn’t seem like a lot, but after 5 years, it’s $2200.00. especially when they can take the alarm back. email me with what you need. let me know if your basement is unfinished and how many door contacts and motions you will need. i’ll see if i can help you out. my email is alarmax@honeywellmonitoring.com
Check out http://www.honeywellmonitoring.com if you have any interest in a home security system. It is the ultimate do-it-yourself security website. You can buy Honeywell products, find specs, manuals, installation videos, device sounds, and they are one of the few websites that give full warranties with the products. They also offer the best alarm system monitoring for only $15 per month and if you’re stuck in a contract with a company paying the usual $30 to $40 per month, they will help you get out of the contract early so you can start saving hundreds per year.
About 2 or 3 months ago we got a system from Front Point Security which was relatively cheap – mainly because you install it yourself and do most of the monitoring online. It only took my husband about 20 minutes to attach the wireless sensors to the doors and windows. You can put the sensors on basically anything that moves which is pretty cool. I don’t have a home phone either which is the main reason why we picked the Front Point system because you don’t need one. They can send you a text and/or call your cell whenever an alarm is activated. I know there is also a lot of things that you can monitor online too, but I would check out the website for more info. They have cameras that you can install as well. I think we pay about $30/month which is a lot better than some of the bigger companies. The equipment was under $100 and we own it, not rent it from the company.
Hope this helps and good luck!
